Well, after all those multiple posts, I finally got a promo copy of the Miles
Davis project headed by Bill Laswell. I forget the name right now, something
like "Pangassa" or something but the promo has three tracks which are 12+
minutes each, one track from "In a Silent Way" (the killer title track and
"Shhh"), one track from "On the Corner" (the multiple one with "Malcolm X") and
another from another album that I can't quite remember the title.

My impressions of it? Well, I can't say that they're the breed of remixes like
"wow, I can't even tell it's the original" so purists may be pleased. The
remix area falls in the tweaking the knobs, messing with the switches type of
thing. In general, it sounds like a lot of the extraneous noise was filtered
out, making the tracks sound cleaner, with more attention to the instruments.
The drums are more upfront, especially the kick, giving the funkiness of the
tracks more edge (the track from "On the Corner" sounds like something from a
Gary Bartz '70s album) and the dub parts are kept to a minimal, mostly effects
but no extended twiddling.

Surprisingly pretty good and it made me want to listen to the originals.
Supposed to be out in January.
