Hi,

as promised, a review of the gig from last night. It started off very =
well as I managed to replicate the tickets for the show in the copyshop =
and made a big profit selling them( Thanks Paul!) as well as being able =
to bring a bunch of friends. Funny, Mushroom and 3d came walking to the =
club and my friend asked them if they wanted to buy tickets for the =
show! ( he had recognised them) Later in the show 3d asked the public =
how many people had been paying to get in and half of the crowd rose =
their hands....

On with the music First, there was a show by Alpha of the Melankolic =
label, which I personally found to be very boring (a sort of Attica =
Blues clone but of lower quality) and I was glad when Massive entered =
the stage.

They played about 18 songs, new ones and classics. The new songs are =
very dark and they used a lot of guitar. I think they are moving away =
from the hip hop-dub influence and are moving to a dub-rock side. =
Mushroom did not have a lot of input in the whole show and looked as if =
he spent the whole day in one of Amsterdam's famous coffeeshops. One of =
the new songs was a very slow and brilliant dubtrack with Horace (Andy) =
singing over it. The majority of the songs were intense and the use of =
guitars wasn't annoying but adding to the atmosphere of tension and =
darkness.
I even started to compare their music with the music of Tool ( a rock =
band who uses a lot of tension on their songs). The new female vocalist =
(I didn't catch her name) did her first performance in front of an =
audience and put down a great show, great voice, especially when she =
combined it with Horace's, you can't compare her voice with Shara =
Nelson's or Tracey Thorn's, hers is just different but good. I think =
that the album will have to grow on you because the songs are not as =
easily accessible as the songs from the other two albums. Besides of the =
fact that 3d was shouting "thank you Paradiso" a couple of times (while =
he was playing in the Milkyway) it was a great show. It was good to hear =
the classics again and see Horace perform and having a lot of fun on =
stage.

There were some people filming the whole show for Spanish television (I =
believe Canal Plus) so Spanish subscribers be on the lookout.

cheers,
Jeroen
