i too am a md devotee. the editing features are incredible. you can make
edits to within a fraction of a second, you can resequence in seconds, you
can title everything. my baby portable sound player is the size of a deck
of cards, and shaking it as much as i can, i still can't get it to skip or
stop. it's so small i usually carry it in my shirt pocket.

one thing i disagree about, however, gen; sony wants us to think it's
lossless, but it ain't. md technology "decides" through its "psychoacoustic
algorithm" what signal to keep, and what to ignore. i've found that this
basically "cleans up" the bass end, but simplifies it as well. the general
sound, to me, approximates a "v" equalization, in that bass (around 100-200
hz) and treble (750hz-2000 hz) are bumped up a bit.

all this being said, the intergenerational loss is quite small, and even 5th
generation sounds at least cassette quality.....

i think that once they perfect hardware to enable you to download an mp3 and
print to minidiscs, md's will be ubiquitous......

i like minidisc.
