my feeling is that you can't really go wrong with any of their
releases...their earlier albums, like _peng!_ and _the groop played space age
bachelor pad music_ are very moog oriented, more in the lounge-pop, post-rock
mode: noodling synth lines and a droning bassline. sometimes, methinks a bit
repetitve, but pretty radical at the time. both of these are on too pure. with
later releases like _transient random noise bits_ (my favorite) or _mars
audiac quintet_ they move to a more structured and mature sound. these are on
elektra. also check _emporer tomato ketchup_ or the _wow and flutter_ ep. they
also have some very cool singles on their own duophonic hifi label. see them
live, too! c.
