Just figured I'd share my views on Embrya. I normally give an album 9
initial hearings--3 for each side before I decide how I feel about it.
Here's side one:

I've got the tape...not bad so far.....it carries the whole gestation
theme and what's interesting is how so many people think that its such
a sensual and romantic album.....personally, I think he was trying to
capture how divine love is....sort of a love brings about life....on
one track you can hear the mimicked sounds of a sonogram and on
another, the drums kick a heartbeat rhythm--but in the context of 2
people who ar e in love.....matter o' fact, the 'life beat' is present
throughout the album, whether its programmed or real. There's also a
very fluid sound to some of the tracks--like being in a womb--again,
carrying out the gestation theme. He does a good job of telling a
story....its in the same format as Urban Hang Suite--one song sets up
the other. I'm not that crazy about Luxury Cococure and I'm not sure
it will be a big hit-although right now, at the official site, its
been picked as the favorite track among most. IMO, the first two
tracks, an the intro and outro are better. Especially the intro. In
the sleeve, there's some text. Try reading it along with the intro
music and you've got a spoken word piece preceeding the first
track.(yeah, being a poet I'm a bit biased, but this works well)

I definitely give props to Maxwell and his 'Musze' for the revival of
solid R&B with sensual vocals cool riffs and funky bass. If you liked
Urban Hang Suite, you like this.
