Hello

Clearly this isn't what any sane person would call 'acid jazz', but I'm =
hoping there is someone out there who can help me with this one.

I recently bought a 1987 CD called 'Passarim' by a Brasilian =
singer/pianist named Antonio Carlos Jobim. The first thing I noticed was =
that Mr Jobim seems to have recorded prolifically over the years. Tower =
must have had fifty discs by him (this being Tower, perhaps they were =
all the same).

Anyway, the second thing I noticed was that I really didn't like the CD =
the first time I heard it. But on subsequent occassions I've actually =
rather enjoyed it. In fact it's become something of a late-night =
favourite of mine.

My first question is: does anyone know anything about Antonio Carlos =
Jobim? (My only further knowledge is that he played on Getz/Gilberto.)

Secondly, struggling to understand how this musician relates to the rest =
of the music world, I find myself wondering about 'lounge music' and =
'bossa nova' - terms I'm really not qualified to use. Is there someone =
who can tie all these things together for me - or even show me that they =
are completely unrelated?

Finally, has anyone ever heard of Tom Jobim?

I'd be most grateful for any insight.

Thanks in advance.

James
