Hi,

I went to the second day of the Drum Rythm festival in Amsterdam =
yesterday. Before that I went recordshopping and visited Fat Beats in =
Amsterdam(yep a sister of the nyc store) for the first time. Great great =
shop with a large collection., of course mostly hip hp-orientated and =
spent too much time there so that we arrived at the festival 10 minutes =
before the end of the show of Common. He was there with a live band and =
really kicking it. then I hurried to one of the other rooms to see =
Marcos Valle doing a very nice performance. Smooth jazz/bossa/funk =
sounds. King Britt and Chico Debarge were cancelled as were Optical/Ed =
Rush
whcich was a major bummer for me. Replacing them were Clyde Stubblefield =
(James Brown's drummer), Jam master Jay (E-Z Rollers). Photek was also =
there. The Drum & Bass room was equiped with the fattest soundsystem, =
immediate removal of earwax was the result when you entered the room..

Next was D-Influence which was not too impressive, I liked the show of =
La India (Nu Yorican soul) better. Rakim was shouting too much for me. =
Carleen Anderson's performance was a relief. Very intense, not too much =
use of guitars. and her roaring voice. at two o'clock it was time for =
Gang Starr to rip shit up. After an initial breakdown of the monitor =
speakers Guru put down a solid gig with primo creating beats. Unlike =
Rakim they weren't using a DAT for the music.

Highlight of the evening was in a small tent were Dutch oercussionist =
were doing a show on traditional African instruments. The musicians =
that had come with Youssou N'dour came to take a look and took control =
of things, doing some mad african traditional dancing and hectic rythms.

Not a very good edition of the festival but it was a nice evening in =
all.

cheers,
