I went to see massive in atlanta last sunday. Iwrote this long
popst about it, but my email ate it.

First off there was no lewis parker.there was some guy DJing which leads
me to my first question. I m not really sure who is who and who does
what, but it seemed like this dude DJing might have been the light
skinned dude (mushroom?) I couldnt tell cause he had on a fisherman's
hat the whole time, though later while massive performed, he played the
samples, did the scratching etc

anyways, he played slow hiphop tunes and other cool stuff, nothing really
special. Then massive came on at about 8:30 --9 pm. They started with
angel done by Horace andy. It seemed like he needed to warm up,
because he didnt start singing on key until halfway thru the song.
This was one of the few problems i had with the concert. Though the music
was perfect. Then in no paticular oorder, They did 3 more songs from
mezzanine ---teardrop, risingson and man next door---all done nicely
They had this black girl do teardrop as well as all the other femakle
vocals. I thought she had a really nice voice. I didnt catch her name
when daddy G introduced her, and she didnt look like nicollete or shara
nelson. Also Daddy G did all of Tricky's lines.
Rest of the songs in no order.

Daydreaming----it seemed the guy on the piano added too much ambience,
overshadowing the "boom chiky chick" (Tricky)
one love
Safe from harm
spying glass
hymn of the big wheel----during these 2 songs, horace andy had the whole
crowd clapping and singing along. unexpected.
group four
Karmacoma
weatherstorm-----piano guy had a long piano solo that he added to the
song. Pretty goood. Is Craig Armstrong a black guy? piano man was a blakc
guy.
inertia creeps
Unfinished sympathy---I already hated this 80s pop-techno sounding song,
so i was disappoinetd when it turned out to be the last song from there
1st encore. the raver kids where dancinng and the place was like a part y
thru the dancy songs.
Mezzanine---had an extended remix of this, where they sped up the
drum beats almost todrum n bass speed. this was the last song of the 2nd
encore, and the whole concert

2 of these songs where tottal remixs, but i cant remember which
ones.

For some reason, Daddy G walked out by the crowd twice, maybe to go get a
beer or something ( they drank the whol;e time on stage). I dont think
many recognized him, because no one bothered him even though the guards
made a side path for him which I would expected would have drawn more
attention to him. Maybe evryone was too engulfed in the
music.

Other problems i had with concert
--Dancing people bumping into me, and screaming out song lyrics.
--It wasnt as intense as i expected, but the mezzanine
songs and some others kept it to a nice level. It seemed intensity
got interrupted evry 2 songs, after the first 4 songs.
Though it seems Massive came form a partying background anyway, during the
days of wild bunch e.t.c, so maybe thats just how they really are.
Not that I have anything against party music, I just wasnt in that mind
frame at the time.

Overall, it was a great concert that shouldnt be missed. It seems like the
kind of concert that almost anyone would enjoy i.e. not as weird as
Tricky's concert.
