Hi Folks
welcome to the return of the Giant Step newsletter. After a much
deserved silence were pleased to announce our return with a number of
great events
first up
Giant Step presents a surprise return engagement *
* Only NYC appearance * For one night only * the legendary Soul Folk
Jazz singer
T E R R Y C A L L I E R
FEBRUARY 17th 1999
@ S.O.Bıs, 204 Varick St, New York
Tickets $15 available via Ticketmaster and Other Music and Dancetracks
Records Shops.
Last December, Jazz Folk Soul singer / songwriter Terry Callier played
his first gig in
New York since the 1970ıs. It was a stunningly intimate gig that the New
York Times described as ³Bliss....Callier is effortlessly eclectic,
uniting all sorts of music behind uplifting messages. He can sing with a
gentle croon or a scat singerıs lilt or a gospel shouterıs fervor ; he
also uses the African-style ululationıs of Leon Thomas, who sang with the
jazz saxophonist Pharaoh Sanders. His band, although it had his acoustic
guitar at its center harked back to the mantra-jazz of the late 1960ıs,
songs like ³The Creator Has a Master Plan.²
In the wake of a upsurge of media interest in similar like-minded
singers like Andy Bey, and with news that Callier will be receiving an
award from the United Nations and the added bonus that Callier is
recording a new record for the much respected Verve label, one hopes that
Callier will finally get some of the long overdue audience recognition
here in the States. You still may be wondering what does an old Jazz Folk
singer have to do with me well consider this Drum n Bass inventors 4 Hero
cite Callier as a big influence. Nowıs your chance to catch a astounding
legend, in a rare and intimate setting for a show thatıs sure to capture
your heart. Donıt miss it for the second time!

In their years of collaboration, Kruder + Dorfmeister have been
continuously busy. The majority of their work has been one-off singles
for compilations and numerous remixes for premier international
producers, the likes of which include United Future Organization,
Roni Size, Rockers Hi Fi , Lamb and Depeche Mode. Forays into the R&B
world include remixes for English vocalist Lewis Taylor and even US
gangsta rappers Bone Thugs-N-Harmony. A lot of this work has recently
been compiled onto a double CD compilation ³The K&D Sessions²
on Studio K7. The record is causing quite a stir on college radio and is
currently NO 1 in CMJıs RPM chart. Itıs a follow up to their previously
successful DJ set for studio K7ıs DJ Kicks series.
Kruder and Dorfmeister are creators of a trademark sound, they blend
bass heavy downbeat tracks with epic soundscapes with double time
breaks and deep Viennese feeling. K&D roam in a	unique musical
wonderland that draws on classic funk, electric jazz arrangements, deep
soul
attitudes, hip hop, dub, drum & bass, and a multitude of other
influences that draw the attention of musical magpies.
This evening of the duo spinning one of their legendary four hour sets to
