I have to disagree. Sometimes Jason Bentley can be interesting
but I find him a little too commercial. KCRW as a whole is the
best thing LA has going for it (is Gilles Peterson's "World Wide"
still on?) but aside from that LA radio is a void. KXLU
(local 'cool' college station just gaybashed one of my heros
last week). For you KCRW nuts, check out Wim Wenders' "End of
Violence" for a hilarious cameo by Chris Douridas, though the
film isn't too special.

I hate to admit it but I really like their stuff. It's just so
catchy. Forget the remixes, the main mix of "Red Alert" won't
get off the turntable. If you've had trouble tracking down their
records, the Atlantic Jaxx comp is a good place to start. But
it doesn't matter, "Remedy" should be out any day now and you
won't be able to escape it. Usually I'm wary of UK hype (who
isn't) but this album should be fantastic. If you're in LA,
go to Beat Non Stop, they should have plenty of Basement Jaxx
stuff.

ps Granted, Bentley was one of the first in the US to play
Jamiroquai, Young Disciples, MC Solaar and all the old school
a-jazz stuff on the radio. I have to give him credit for that.
He's a good influence, just not my type.
