Bob,

Right on! really, when you think about it, the Blues was there forever, but
it came into it's form in Northern and Northwestern Africa even before the
slave traders started their nefarious practices regarding people as chattels
and the white man signed on in full with those hideous practices. If you
listen to some Arabic music, there is a lot of bluesy phrasing and singing.
If you spend a little time in the world of Flamenco then you can some
similar sorts of hits. The subject matter of the music from these cultural
backdrops have many Bluesy facets. The same applies to many cultures for the
Blues transcends much of what surrounds it.
