Hey now...
I assume you dislike James Taylor (JTQ since he uses a bassist, now?) too...It
all depends, there are certain things you can do with an electric bass that you
can't do with pedals. The limited note range is the main thing, and don't tell
me you can do 16th note runs on your feet (and if you can I'd love to hear it...
:)) Peadals are great for walking stuff and boogaloo-type lines, but you can't
play every kind of bassline on them.
 
I agree with you that MMW aren't doing anything mindblowingly new, but to his
defense, I don't think that Medeski is trying to be some B-3 god. The organ is
just a part of his setup...he plays Clavinet, Wurlitzer and acoustic piano, too.
