One comp I just picked up that I'm digging is "Anticon Presents: Music for
the Advancement of Hip Hop" (On Anticon, Distro by Revolver USA)
An entirely different direction of "Abstract hiphop" Really cool beats
(very different from anything else i've heard), great rappers. Mixed by
Signify and Mayonnaise of 1200 Hobos. Includes Minneapolis rappers Eyedea
and Slug. I don't know the story behind it, but i know i like what it
sounds like. Check the tracks "It's them" and "Divine Disappointment" at
the web site http://www.anticon.com

Other dudes on it are Sole, Dose, Alias, Jel, Anomoly, Math, Moodswing9,
6.2 (who has a brilliant track "Simulated Snow"--piano plinks and a
quasi-jungle beat while talking about environmental destruction), Buck 65,
Circus, cosmic lovefuck, Henry, and the pedestrian.

Is the Minneapolis's Atmosphere, the group that is half Slug (featured above)?
Yes, Atmosphere is awesome. I still have yet to check their only album
"Overcast!," and Slug is also on the Dyno-Spectrum album. Check
http://www.rhymesayers.com for more info on the Twin Cities' best hip hop
crew.
