(ot) Off list band promotion via spamming

Sorry to whine and b*tch about this, but certain folks on this list are using
the list to collect their own database for their own band's mailing list.

I have two problems with this - - Why can't you just post it to the list ?
2) Why are you putting a guy in Philly on a mailing list to notify him
privately of a gig in Timbuktoo. - - ULtimately the problem is, if I go on
vacation and want to get off this list of any other so my box doesn't get
clogged, I just unsubscribe - - however, if you put me on your private
mailing list, I still get useless SPAMS - - get the picture.

So for those individuals who use this list to collect addresses for their own
bulk mailings, I just want you to know that I'm going to forward them to your
ISP and my ISP, like a do with all spam and you could lose your e-mail
account or get certain restrictions. (I know people this has happened too.)

If you want to send me private e-mails - - fine. If you want to post to the
list - - fine. If you're a local band and you want to hip me to what's going
on now and then, fine. But if you're sending me bulk e-mails just because
I'm on the list, and you don't want to post to the list, maybe because you
don't care about it, and you're using it... cut the sh*t and while you're at
it, try to get a following via word of mouth. That's how most real bands
build up. If you go to a show and survey people and ask them why they came,
it wasn't because of an annoying e-mail or flyer. It was because their
friend brought them along 8 times out of 10. Mailling lists are for
consolidating your fan base to know about future shows. This isn't the
Blues Borthers Movie.

Peace,

Ed
