record companies cannot control the web

Record companies cannot control the web and should know that simply
    closing down sites doesn't work,
look at the warez sites for instance as soon as they get closed down
    another one opens up.
there will always be foot soldiers to take the place of the fallen
    heroes.

Metalica will not sue that school think of the bad PR

But a more enlighted way for record companies/bands to deal with this
    kind of problem is
to offer something to their FANS from their own web site, therefore
    nutralising the reason for
the illegal web site and getting hits for the the band (marketing
    chance),

    from the beasties web site
    http://www.beastieboys.com/av_index.html

While the Beastie Boys were practicing for their 1998 North American
    Tour bootleggers moved quickly
and released a CD of one of their first European shows before the
European tour could even end. Someone else
quickly bootlegged that CD and put all the files in MP3 format (which
are now floating around the net). Well now
we managed to bootleg those MP3s, and turned them into RealAudio files
for your listening enjoyment here at
the official Beastie Boys site. We now invite you to enjoy these choice
    selections over RealAudio at a
variety of connection speeds. Welcome back to 1998.

(Beastie Boys would like you to know that this is one of their first
shows with Mix Master Mike and everything
is sounding even better now. We think even this first show sounds
amazing, and that's why we're presenting it
     to you here.)

    Enjoy.

    Live from Loreley, Germany, 6/20/1998:

Eggman - Check the way Mix Master Mike plays
    with the beat
Time To Get Ill - Listen as the crowd incites
Mix Master Mike who incites Beastie Boys to "try some
                               old shit"
Pass The Mic - Listen for the beat change at
    the end
I Want Some - One of the rock numbers from
Aglio E Olio played to perfection live, video game sound
                               effects and all

Enjoy, and be good. Sharing with friends is
ok, selling for profit is not.
