440 Hz is the frequency for the musical note of middle "A" on a piano (thus
"A=440"). This note is generally recognized as a standard frequency for tuning
musical instruments. If you see a piano tuning fork and strike it, it will ring
the "A" note and will vibrate at 440 Hz.

I believe Apollo 440 originally called themselves A440 but due to legal troubles
(surprise surprise) they expanded "A" to "Apollo," possibly as a space-age
