ALBUM OF THE WEEK: Barking at the heels of Senor Coconut's Kraftwerk tribute
album comes another surprising and delightful Latin music hybrid. This time
the instigator is Jesus Alemany, whose band Cubanismo traveled to New
Orleans for a crash-course in R&B. In short, MARDI GRAS MAMBO is a party in
a jewel box. Rearranged R&B standards sit side-by-side with original
compositions that highlight the musical similarities between these two
extremely danceable styles of music. A one-of-a-kind release from Hannibal
Records.
ICE CREAM OF THE WEEK: There is a time for music, and a time for ice cream.
And heading up the frozen confection top ten this week is Howler Organic
Gelato: surely the finest, richest, smoothest, phattening-est ice cream on
the planet. Oh yeah. :-)
