    CHILLSPACE : The Summer Playlist

1 Blue States - Nothing Changes Under The Sun (Memphis Industries)
Lush, beautiful and azure blue - the essential sound of the chilled
    underground in 2000.

2 Lemon Jelly - The Midnight EP (Impotent Fury)
Third tangy 10" from Fred and Nick reportedly just signed to XL and
certainly going places, including this year's Enchanted Garden, where
Fred has just confirmed a DJ set

3 Bonobo - Animal Magic (True Thoughts)
Debut album from Simon Green (not the Raya one!) who programmes and
plays everything here - jazzy samples, sitars, classical influences -
high on melody, low on attitude.

4 James Hardway - Moors & Christians (Hydrogen Dukebox)
Island hopping from the British Isles to Cuba to Jamaica -a joyous
jamdown of high priest wailing, conscious ragga rant, uplifting horns
and afro-percussion. Pure genius from the Dave Harrow. Global
    meltdown!

    5 Shur-i-ken - The Daze (CDR pre)
Delicate spiritual music that goes deeper than most. The god-like Tom
Szirtes lays his soul bare with a gorgeous slice of Metheny-esque
beauty with magnificent rolling acoustic piano and oboe over cosmic
taut beats. Can't wait for the album.

6 The Bays - Albatross (Big Chill)
A sneak preview from the forthcoming 'Enchanted 02' comp with
Middleton, Pritchard, Gangadine, Jamie Jimpster, Danny Breaks and
friends caught live in chilled funk mode. The spirit of Global
Communication lives on live on stage - catch it live at The Big Chill
    in August!

7 Dome - The Glistening (Cursor Club)
Another gem from San Francisco's finest ambient troubadours. Machine
precision meets luscious melody and harmony.

8 Victor Davies - Better Place (white CDR)
Triumphant rays of hope from London based singer-songwriter who
specialises in uplifting sunshine music with a message. Choose
between mixes : purist, jazz fusion or Cotton Club.

9 Over Soul feat Gram'ma Funk - Universal Unfolding (O.M.M Sounds)
This one yells "Summer Anthem!" as it extols the gospel of chill -
spacey, fruity guitar, vibing spoken word ... another one with a
message. "Make it mellow". A Mr Lenny Ibizarre is behind this classic.

10 Chris Coco and Lenny Ibizarre - Back To Nature (CDR pre)
From the 'Chilling Me Softly' compilation, Mr Coco - at the centre of
all things chilled - in magnificent form this season. Catch

11 Bent - Programmed To Love (Sport Recordings)
The sound of summer continues, while we wait patiently for summer to
arrive. probably the year's equal best album so far (ties with Blue
    States)

    12 Hexstatic - Rewind (Ntone/Ninja Tune)
After several years, it's finally ready and certainly lives up to
expectation, with its state of the art leading edge digital lo-fi
    cut-up video breaks.

13 The Rurals - Headsongs (Peng Music)
Idyllic jazz-infused country-house from Devon, proving that there is
more to the county than cream teas, zider and zimmerframes.

    14 Plaid - Trainer (Warp)
Double CD compilation of some of the Handley / Turner duo's finest
    moments and rarities.

15 Muki - Quiet Riot (Mantra)
quiet, funky, jazzy and well chilled. I've been a fan for a couple of
years now and this new album doesn't disappoint.

16 United Eye - Big Chief (Afro Art)
Paul Murphy lets loose Mardi Gras style with this party piece
sampling Professor Longhair's barrelhouse piano boogie. Joyous!

    17 Audiomontage - Flying High (Shir-i-ken mix)
Watch out for some stunning new Jamie Jimpster material under this
alter-ego. This version gets the full Tom 'Shur-i-ken' Szirtes
treatment. Anyone for two-step cosmic disco?

    18 Moss - Moth (Pork)
3 tracker from the excellent and somewhat over-looked album 'East
    Coast Chip Shop'.

19 Various - More Bossa ...Remix Album (Yellow)
Some the master of the new beats in full display here with re-treads
from at Jazz, Waiwan, Calm, Francois K and Eric Kupper and best of
    all, Restless Soul.

20 Various - Dub Combinations (Kog Transmissions) Auckland's Kog
collective have their fingers in many pies, including the omnipresent
NZ dub sensibility. They debut in the UK at this year's Enchanted
    Garden.

21 Cosmos - Deep Step (Demo CDR)
Much anticipated follow-up to 'Summer In Space' - a deep and funky
spacial excursion that pushes all the right buttons.

22 Lol Hammond - And All This Bliss (CDR promo)
Lol in powerful reflective mode with bros Roger and Brian Eno in
    close attendance.

    23 Raya Album (CDR promo)
Top London based multi-media club's first official release scheduled for autumn

    24 Girlosophy CD (CDR promo)
Supporting the book of the same name, coming soon from Sydney based
writer Anthea Paul, this Tom Middleton compiled CD gives us a chance
to touch base with our more feminine side.

25 Senor Coconut Y Su Conjunto - El Baile Aleman (Multicolor / EFA)
    Kraftwerk classics cumbia style, anyone?

    coming in august :
The new Big Chill label release 'Beach', mixed by Pete Lawrence.......
