This week's edition of "Jazzadelica" fell during one of those occasional
periods we designate as "hog-wild week" at KFJC, where just about anything
goes. So for this week's show, I decided to focus on some VERY long tracks
that I have previously skipped over due to normal break clock

ALBUM OF THE WEEK: JAZZACTUEL, an awe-inspiring triple-CD set documenting
three amazing years in the development of "free jazz." From 1969-1971, the
French BYG/Actuel label lured cutting-edge American jazz artists to Europe
for collaborative concerts and recording dates. The result, sampled on this
collection and documented with informative liner notes by Thurston Moore and
Byron Coley, was a body of ground-breaking work that continues to exert
influence to this day. Along with the equally-remarkable ESP-Disk catalog,
these BYG/Actuel releases (50+ total) are the definition of "free jazz."
