    heya everyone,

Whew! It's been a crazy one, complete with computer malfunctions, but here
is this week's reminder 'bout all things related to 'SOULAR system,' the
weekly that Sassa'le and I do Saturdays upstairs in the wicked, funky, and
very dance-friendly B-Side (above Fez Batik, 129 Peter at Richmond). Lee
and I mix downtempo, dub, d&b, deep house, beats, breaks, UK Garage, and
soulful grooves..... if it's good, we're feeling and playing it. :-)

Tonight (!), we proudly host and co-present the video release party for
Public Transit Recordings artists LAL, and their "Corners." Full details
follow below. Apologies, but I can't offer any guest list as requests have
come fast 'n furious thus the list is full. It's only $8 at the door though
($6 with a TTC transfer from today)...and you get to support a whole whack
    of T.O. talent.

AUGUST also sees Sassa'le and I joined by many a special guest, including:

SAT. AUG. 5: Toronto's own ABACUS a.k.a. Guidance Recordings artist A:XUS
steps into the booth. Come hear sweet, sexy house mixed by a man who knows.
Check his 'Soundtrack for Life' album, featuring vocalists such as Naomi
Nsombi (as heard on a forthcoming Ron Trent track), LAL's Rosina, Bratticus
    aka Esthero, and others.

SAT. AUG. 12: NYC's infamous DERRIK FOXX, internationally respected for his
gigs at venues such as the original Sound Factory and Café Con Leche, joins
us to spin, in his words, 'Electric garage with Classic and Chicago house.'
He is currently touring throughout North, South and Central Americas, is
putting the finishing touches on his debut ful-length, and hits Toronto to
celebrate his birthday. Given that his previous gigs here have been at
venues such as the Guvernment, Industry, Joy, and the Living Room, it's an
honour to host Derrik and his talent in a more intimate room.

SAT. AUG. 19: World Domination recording artists CODEX will perform fresh,
original drum & bass and breakbeat material LIVE. Peak into their future as
they bring us brand new material, destined for album number two.

SAT. AUG. 26: DJ & vocalist STACH will step into the booth. As the
frontperson for Maxelle, Stach offers lovely, focussed, and pointed stream
of consciousness lyrics, usually sung in her native Français. As a DJ, she
co-hosts the progressive hip hop show 'Droppin' Dimes' on CKLN, and can be
found in clubs mixing beats 'n pieces alongside Brazilian and deep house
    gems. This girl is special!

Cover is only $7 at the door for each of the above nights. Hope to see you out!

Thanks once again for your interest and support. As always, if you'd prefer
not to be on this list, just let me know and off ye shall go. Ciao for now.

tommygrl productions and SOULAR system Saturdays present guests:

    SATURDAY JULY 29:

PTR Recording artists LAL perform live for their video release party
SOULAR system shines bright each Saturday night at
B-SIDE 129 Peter Street (above Fez Batik) * enter off Richmond
    416.204.9660 * e: mentalchatter@sympatico.ca

Public Transit Recordings and SOULAR system at B-Side celebrate with LAL,
in honour of their first video. LAL, known for their unique approach to
urban music, will screen the video and perform live. Shooting a video was
an unexpected treat; "It sort of dropped in our laps," vocalist Rosina
says. "When we got together with Rob, we shared a musical vision for
'Corners.'" In the video, director ROB PILICHOWSKI tells the story of a
typical urban street corner through the eyes of a young woman. Best known
for his work on the opening credits for David Cronenberg's film Existenz,
Rob threw his energies into producing the subtle yet engaging video.

Vocalist ROSINA and producer MURR make up the duo LAL. Together, they
combine jazz, soul, hip hop, and east-Indian grooves to make a unique new
sound. Both are rising stars on the urban music scene - Murr, part of
Juno-award-winning hip hop crew Da Grassroots, has worked with Esthero and
the Dream Warriors, while Rosina has collaborated with house producer
Abacus. Together they have performed across Canada and the United States.
LAL will screen the video for the first time at 12:00 a.m. after they
perform songs from their forthcoming Public Transit Recordings EP,
'Corners.' LAL's LIVE show is a blend of their philosophy, incorporating
eastern and western styles of music. Joining Rosina and Murr on stage are
Prithi on the Veena, and Keith on the electric guitar. The audience should
    be prepared for some surprises.

PTR producer/DJ's MOONSTARR and LOGIC will make guest DJ appearances,
joining SOULAR system residents Denise Benson (CKLN's Mental Chatter) and
Sassa'le (CKLN's Version Excursion). Doors open 10pm, with cover being $8
at the door, $6 for those with a valid TTC transfer from the day. Show your
    support for local talent!
