    I'm down to hear some much hot funky jazz with some real playerz. In the MMW
    vein, but not that.

    Anyone heard anything new lately? Anyone heard James Hurt, for instance? Is
    that any good?

    (By the way, saw Tony Allen this week at VYNYL in Hollywood. Anyone catch
    it? I was very disappointed. Tony plays so sweetly, of course, like a cross
    between Art Blakey and Jabo Starks, all with that highlife afrobeat thing,
    but that was IT. One hippy on guitar playing overdriven barre chords;
    another hippy on turntables and theremin you could't even hear, and that was
    in between staring at his MacBook. (It is still so wierd for me to watch
    someone stare at a computer on stage at a concert.) A bass player and a
    Rhodes guy made it 5, but, well, I'm looking forward to Bukem and Femi.
    Avant garde nuttiness ruined Afrobeat 2000 for me.
