OK, I've seen Sade on Chris Rock and VH-1, and I've got to say this song is pretty disapointing all the way round.

Lyrically, I'll give it a C-, and that's generous. Musically, it just kind of lopes along with none of the mad Sade innovative bizness of the past. Vocally, Sade's always had a "fragile" relationship with pitch (as have other vocal greats) but here, it's just close to annoying. Videowise, it's ok, I guess, kind of early 80-s dumb; (Why does Sade molest that old couple dancing in the freezing weather? Why is the rest of the band sitting in the trees playing instruments? Will David Bowie make an appearance?)

    Anyone else feel that way?

And by the way, Erykah Badu's voice. The last 2 trax I've heard (Plenty, from Jazzmatazz, and this new one on VH1) it sounds like it's getting higher and higher, climbing up, helium wise, into MG territory. What'sup with that? I like the more soulful sound of trax like Certainly and On and On.

Am I wrong, or are we hoping the forthcoming LPs are stronger than these tracks. (And don't the best tracks sometimes come first?)

Jill Scott is really sounding good to me, right now.

(PS Phoenix, What a month! J5 and Dilated Peoples tonight, Bush-Gore Next Tuesday, Lewis-Tua next Saturday, and the Roots in 2 weeks! Cactus bwoy in the place 2 be!)
