THE ZGB - BIKER BAR BLUES / REVOLUTION

Also known as Zip Gibson band, some people may be familiar with Zip as the former lead guitarist with Steve Earle & The Dukes, Zip has moved out on his own & is making some very interesting blues msuci that will no doubt impress anyone who's a fan of the blues or of bands who interpret blues music like Led Zeppelin.

The band have actually sent a couple of releases, the first being Biker Bar Blues, which is driven by the great lead guitars provided by Zip himself as well as a very competent bass & percussion section which both play a part. Outstanding songs here are the opener "She Likes It All", which reminded me a little of the slower AC/DC songs, while an exceptional track called "Ain't Nothing Like You" & "She's All Night" both stand out.

The production on Revolution, which the band consider an ep despite it's great length & the 9 track song total, is considerably better & I think the music is perhaps even better in itself, though perhaps I was just getting into the ZGB groove by the time I reached listening through the first album.

Picks here for me were the slightly slower tracks such as the very cool "Between The Lies", a song which takes a harder edge than Robert Cray's great blues but essentially has the same ideals. Other notable songs here were "When I Die", "It's Only" & the closing track "The Answer". If you're a fan of good rock witha blues influence, then The ZGB are definitely right up your street.
