the purpose of doing jazz standards is not to play in
the style of someone else, but to put your own spin on
something that everyone knows. for example, listen to
(our favorite tune of the last 2 weeks) "autumn
leaves" by miles/cannonball (on *something else*) and
then listen to what wynton marsalis does with it on
*standard time vol.1* wynton is a really big fan of
miles--you can hear it in his tone--but he doesn't try
to sound just like him at every opportunity (although
there are times where he bites miles pretty heavily).

in the new "...chaser" dego seems to indicate there
will be no tour for this album. i think that you're
right about us thinking thru this a lot more than
4hero did, but we're supposed to--we're the audience!!

as another dj, i would agree that there is a
    difference between "i don't like that" and "i wouldn't
spin it." but for me, if i don't like it, i won't
    spin it.

i was very, very disappointed by this cover, and the
remixes which turned out to be for "9x9"--which is an
old gospel tune (i'm a little surpised no-one seems to
have picked up on this) that i don't think i ever
liked. i was really hoping they would freak "le
fleur" in some way--maybe a dub?

everything else i hear from the album seems to be
    really good, though...
