    >R: Can you play something more upbeat?

the above are fun--i've experienced all of them... and here's my 1UP:

    scene 1
-dj is playing classic funk tune
r: can you play something funkier?
dj: no, i can't. this is *JAMES BROWN*, i can play something different,
but it doesn't get any funkier than this...

warning: the next anecdote contains reference to race--no pejorative or
derogatory terms, but race is necessarily used to convey proper context and
in order to properly quote parties.

    scene 2
-djs (2 djs, one anglo-american, the other african-american) are playing
50's rock & roll at new years party for crowd of 40+ years of age
r (anglo-american) to dj (african-american): can you play some white music
    for us?
dj (african-american) plays a buddy holly (famous anglo-american) song. r
does not dance, and seems visibly displeased.
2nd dj (anglo-american) plays a fats domino (famous african-american) tune.
r (same anglo-american) to 1st dj (african-american): this is the kind of
    music i want!
1st dj (african american) looks utterly bewildered and 2nd dj
(anglo-american) chuckles at the absurdity of the situation...
