I'm hitting Brazil for Carnaval, in 2 weeks. I'll actually be in Baleia for Carnaval (and maybe Salvador) but I spending the rest of the week in and around São Paulo. While I am getting the personalized guided tour of São Paulo, can anyone recommend some funky, jazzy, different, wicked & wild clubs, places and/or experiences?

As an aside, I'd recommend that everyone visit Trinidad for Carnival. It is the same pre-Lenten blow out! and anyone interested in magical musical experiences has hear 'pan' live! The pan musts are Panorama (the finals where 12 bands vie) and Jouvert Morning (pan in the streets and traditional costumes). Then Monday and Tuesday are the parade days, a visual feast set to modern calypso... a party like no other. N.B. Calypso Cannot be fully appreciated out of context.

Also, the threads re. Black History month and the criticism of the big recording companies reminded me of a track that I no longer have in my collection (due a B&E). It has been 4 years, but I remember it as a spoken word piece where the vocalist asks if the listener has heard of a list of names, some very familiar (e.g. Elvis, Joplin) and some not (I have no confidence in my recollection here -- maybe Sonny Smith). The vocalist then comments on the fact that everyone has heard of the sanitized artists, but little recognition is afforded to the true innovators. I recommend it highly!
But, I wonder if anyone can confirm that it is on the Brownswood's Multidirection V.1? Anyone know where it is reasonably price (I had found it used for Can$8)?

N.B. I am very thankful for this resource, and respectful of the insight it affords. I only tracked Multidirection down thanks to clues in various emails.

    +ity....steve
