    The sketchiest thing that I have heard of was the K+D "Conversions" mix CD that they released a couple years ago. Apparently Kruder or Dorfmeister had made a mixtape and left it over at the Shadow office for them to listen to. Shadow went a head and licensed every track that appeared on the mix CD and released it as a K+D session without K+D's consent.

    K+D had to send out a press release very similar to Ninjatune's disavowing any approval of the "Conversions" CD.

    this brings up another good point....

    Instinct, which I believe was a completely separate entity from Shadow,
    introduced me to Compost Records (ala their domestically releasing of
    Compost's Future Sound of Jazz comps). This opened the floodgates to so
    much great music from that label (Beanfield being another personal fav)
