    * SOUL-PATROL AT THE PHILADELPHIA RIVER JAM 2001...

    As those of you who have been on Soul-Patrol for a while now already know, this is an event that I have attended for about the past 15 years.
    It's probably the very best SOUL MUSIC event that I get a chance to attend each year and I make sure that I go.
    So who were some of the artists? James Brown, the godfather of Soul himself, Maceo Parker, Ivan Neville, Marcia Ball, Fathead, Buckwheat Zydeco, Terrance Simien, Blackthorn, Little Feat, Southside Johnny, Marva Wright,K-Floor and more...

    While we were there we also had a chance to interview the likes of New Orleans Soul/Funk Star Ivan Neville of the world famous Neville Family, Soul Music Diva Marva Wright, the legendary Buckwheat Zydeco, Zachary S. Williams (leader of the Philadelphia based Funk/Gospel Group Hype Prayze) and Texas Blues legend Marcia Ball.

    Take a listen and see for yourself in beautiful (mono) RealAudio...:-)

    * 3 NEW RE-RELEASES FROM THE SUPERSONIC DELFONICS

    3 Classic Defonics albums have been released on CD: Sound of Sexy Soul, Delfonics and "La La Means I Love You" have been re-mastered and re-released on Buddha Records. Find out more information about these releases and the mighty Delfonics by clicking here.

    Led by William Hart--the trio's lofty lead tenor who doubled as its primary source for fresh material--and rounded out by his brother, baritone Wilbert Hart, and Randy Cain, the Delfonics "Didn't I (Blow Your Mind This Time)" made its first appearance on the charts in January of 1970. The ballad went gold, stopping at #3 R&B and #10 pop on the Billboard charts, and won the Grammy® for Best R&B Performance of 1970....

    * BLACK IVORY OVERVIEW AND DISCUSSION...

    Well, this group that hails from New York City, decided to add their magic touch to create a yummy ingredient for tasteful soul. Sweet soul fans,
    I give you............ Black Ivory !!!!!
    Black Ivory were from NYC, they were about our age and the girls would go wild over their huge Afro's. The main reason I liked em so much was that nobody would turn ya down for a grind when a Black Ivory song would come on !!
    They had same cool slow jams like "Don't Turn Around" !! I think they may have also been big in Philly too, and that makes sense since the women from Philly really knew how to grind...

    * THE CALVANES...

    I have recived many letters from people all over the world asking me how I could possibly say that doo wop is Rock n' Roll. Of course these folks couldn't be more wrong, they are only listening to the slow stuff. Check out a doo wop group doing a fast song, as opposed to a slow song and you will hear what Rock n' Roll sounds like at it's root.
    That was certainly the case when the Chantels were joined on stage by Fred Willis of the Calvanes for a ROCKING cover version (answer record?) of the song "Hit the Road Jack". The combination of the magnificent harmonies along with a gutbucket band sure does sound like "Rock n' Roll" to me...
