    Keyser & Shuriken - newsletter #61: F. U. Music

    Newsflash 28.06.2001

    Dear friends,

As the weather got really hot this week we also got down to drop some hot bitz in the
mix at the radio. Teamed up with our best man Leengum (thanx for the Incredible Bongo
Band and Axelrod souvenirs from London town!) again the Kristalykert massive was
ready to rock the wires. And sure, with all the fresh goodies in our bags, we
    couldn't go wrong.

Take Easy Life Natural: these guys improve by the exponential with each new track
they produce. We have just finished our remix for their previous tune (Keeps the Mind
Active - already featured on the Future Sound of Budapest vol.4 compilation on Juice
Records) under the alias of Crate Soul Brothers last weekend (and that off raw beat
version is in the mix as well). Sheebeedee, their latest will definitely blow the
roofs off all over Europe when they finally find the right label with it. This
uptempo nu jazz monster takes you from swing to nu skool breakz in just a few minutes
while it keeps a steady level of well-twisted trance elements. We know that we are
not known for our passion for trance, but Julez (the young guy with trance/prog house
background in the Easy Life crew) is applying his talent in a really thrilling way.
Crossing musical boundaries again! Word has it that one of his straight-ahead trance
remixes was picked up by Todd Terry on BBC Radio 1! Congratulation Julez!

This week's reading is just another definition of the music we like so much:

"I think at its best, jazz is "fuck you music". I think that is what they share. They
share a similar energy. To me, jazz is at its best, when it has completely gone
against the status quo. Of course, we want to all get accepted and make money. I
think the energy from jazz has to be outlaw energy or it is just not vital. It shares
the same "fuck you" attitude as punk if it is good. If you are trying to conform, you
    might as well forget it."

Spotted in Brian L. Knight's interview with Jazz Pianist Matthew Shipp.
Read the whole piece at: http://members.tripod.com/vermontreview/Interviews/shipp.htm

Talking about fuck you music, check out the psychedelic fuck you beats of Cyril
Zelenak, drummer of the Slovakian jazz rock group Fermata in the mix. This would even
make DJ Food's Strictly Kev head nod. (Thanks for the perfect Cinetrip set this
weekend, Kev! We are still stunned!)

No matter how much you like f.u. music, keep on staying sweet till next week! Our
friend, Alan Brown (aka Cukipapa) would like to let the world to know that he is
staying sweet for sure! Keep on Cuki!
