    GROOVE & KRAMERS - Medicalloop (WGW 028)

After the release of the Glisten Syndicate (a.k.a. Gerd), this is the second Dutch release on WGW. The duo behind this project, Dave Kramers and Ton de Kruyf, are members of the notorious Dutch DADA DANCE organization based in Amersfoort (Holland).
The main track "Medicalloop" is an off-beat groove based on this hypno funky loop which gives the dance floor some supernatural powers. While the B-side contains a upperclass remix of those Antwerp funksters "MAYAKU" who approach this track on a more traditional deep house way, very subtle though. Closing track "Tonta" delivers some very succeeded, experimenting with some Caribbean influences, up tempo breakbeats.
Already charted by DJ's such as Ivan Smagghe, 100% Isis, Frederik, St. Dic, Raoul, D'julz,.. and also approved by other international people like Dorfmeister, Les Ryder, Jon Marsh, Vinyl Junkies Recordstore and Nathan Coles. This is nothing but top Dutch, cheers!

    Tracklisting:
    A1 - Medicalloop - 8'05"
    B1 - Medicalloop (Mayaku mix) - 7'54"
    B2 - Tonta - 7'23"

Written & produced by Groove & Kramers (DaDa Dance)

SKOERE & CAMBRE - Call of Ktulu (WGW 031)

Before these two Belgian new talents recorded already for Wally's Groove World under their Monotone Fantastique moniker which was much approved by Glasgow resident DJ Q aka Paul Flynn. Their new track "Call of Ktulu" will definitely find its way onto the techy floors worldwide and is already heavily supported by the likes of Joanna Massive, Corrie (The End, Fabric, Tag), Les Ryder, Nathan Coles and Jon Marsh. The A side contains a superb remix of the French Adult Only crew. These mysterious guys already gained much support of worldly known DJ's, releasing only stuff on their own labels Taka, Adult Only, Combustible,.... They even made it with a track on the latest Darren Emerson mix compilation. Being very consistent in their work, again now you can expect an incredible remix of their hands.

    Tracklisting:
A - Call of Ktulu - Adult only Remix
    B - Call of Ktulu

Written & produced by Skoere & Cambre

MARINO BERARDI - Expression in E-dub - Remixes (MB Recordings) MB8003

This is probably Marino's most known piece to date. First it saw the light on Forced recordings, then it was spotted in the US by Francois K's Wave recordings and they successfully re-released it with an incredible Floppy Sounds Remix by Rob Rives. Reactions coming from all over the world are still amazing and it has been licensed to different top quality mix compilations including Peace Division's latest. This mix is also included on this European issue which includes also some brand new remixes by D'julz and Majestic plus a bonus track called "12th planet".
Parisian and very famous DJ D'julz (Rex Club) is known for his work on the French Serial imprint and his mix compilation on Magic Garden. After doing a remix for US Deep Touch he now did this funky house mix of Expression in E-dub. Soon you can expect a Joeski & D'julz release on the fresh U.S. imprint Maya. Dutch DJ and producer Frederik known for his Majestic outings and remixes for Bedrock brings you a more tribalistic progressive affaire. The bonus track from Marino Berardi himself is a deep progressive house journey into our solar system, late night action at its best. Very positive reactions coming for this double twelve from Rocky, Nathan Coles, Goldie (Black Market), Corrie (The End, Fabric, Tag), Anthony Pappa and Joanna Massive...
Next up for Marino are releases on Moody Recordings and Josh Wink's imprint Ovum!

    A - Expression in E dub - Floppy Sound Remix - 11'00"
    B - Expression in E dub - D'julz Remix - 06'30"
    C - 12th Planet - 10'24"
    D - Expression in E dub - Expression in beats by Majestic - 10'00"

Written & produced by Marino Berardi

MAYAKU - Mayaku's theme (Wha? Roots Recordings) Wha? 005

The Mayaku boys are back in town with their first outing on the successful Wally's Groove World subsidiary Wha? Roots Recordings. Mayaku members Marius, Jan Costermans and Koenie have been very productive lately with several releases on WGW and also a few remixes for label such as Legato, Aroma. One of their remixes was also picked for the mix compilation of the H-Foundation on NRK Records. Currently they are also working on their debut album for WGW. About this release now: somehow a bit different of their previous releases, Mayaku succeeds in bringing you a wonderful spiritual house tune which comes in two version. If the notorious U.K. Label U-Star tells you something and you liked their sound? Then you really need to check out this one because it can easily be placed next to some work of the Idjut Boys for example.
Circulation already a few months on test now, this is a classic to be, getting already overwhelming reactions of D'julz (Fr.), Dorfmeister, Nico De Ceglia (Discoid, Muzik) and Jon Marsh. Also charted in the Muzik Future Sweep!!

    Tracklisting:
    A1 - Mayaku's theme - 11'32"
    B1 - Mayaku's theme - Late night - 10'14"

Written & produced by Marius Acke, Jan Costermans & Koen Van Immerseel
Live bass & Guitar solo by Rubba J.

    MUZIK FUTURE SWEEP 26/02/2001

    1) (2) Daft Punk: ‘Aerodynamic’ (Virgin)
The wait for the album will soon be over. Here is the second single in advance of it. The French duo, as before, use some electric guitar and a surprisingly classical insert. Good!

    2) (1) X-Press 2: ‘Muzikizum’ (Skint)
2001: a Muzik odyssey! And the title is a palindrome!

    3) (-) Orbital: ‘Funny Break (One’s Enough)’ (FFRR)
The electric duo is back with this first single from forthcoming album ‘The Altogether, with some excellent remix work by Layo & Bushwacka!

    4) (4) Organic Audio: ‘The Biz’ (Spunki Spanko)
Less leftfield than usual, Andy Spence delivers a direct, happy track that will easily work your crowd: just try it! On the flip side is ‘Infantile Style’, a reminder of last years Infantile party at Notting Hill Carnival.

    5) (5) Satoshi Tomiie: ‘Love In Traffic’ (INCredible)
Forget the unimpressive lyrics (hardly unusual in the genre, lets face it), the power of this tune is in its darkness and deepness. Bravo Satoshi!

    6) (3) Pete Heller Presents Stylus Trouble: ‘Sputnik’ (Junior)
An anticipated hit for the dark and twisted single by Mr Heller. A crossover for house and trance lovers.

    7) (7) Michael Procter: ‘Angel’ (Oxyd)
Uplifting lyrics and melodies for this collaboration between Mr Oxx from Oxyd and Mr Procter. Deep Swing create some simple but effective mixes, and there are further reworks from Italy’s Spellband.

    8) (-) Roland Clark presents Digital Pimps: ‘The Sun’ (Maffia Music)
Todd Terry lays hands on this Roland Clark song and although the beats are already familiar (see, among others ‘Beats Vol. 1’ by Choo Choo) the result is undeniably sunny.

    9) (9) Livin’ In Da Ghetto Featuring Moktar: ‘Arabian Song’ (Clubbin’)
Believe it or not, an unusual but effective combination of strong club beats and Arabian chant. The dubs work even better.

    10) (-) Modjo: ‘Chillin’’ (Sound Of Barclay)
Not as immediate as ‘Lady’, but after few months of play from some big names it’s building a crescendo of buzz.

    11) (12) Luis Radio Featuring Sabrina Johnston: ‘House Music’ (Equal)
Italian Luis Radio is a Tony Humphries pupil and also one of the names behind promising label Equal. Here he meets Sabrina Johnston for this anthemic homage to, er, house music.

    12) (-) Harry ‘Choo Choo’ Romero: ‘Beats Vol. 2’ (Subliminal)
Intense and dark, this 12-inch perfectly compliments the other Choo Choo track at Number 16. The second volume of Romero’s minimalist storm of beats.

    13) (-) Mayaku: ‘Mayaku’s Theme’ (Wha’)
This three-piece band is definitely one to look out for. Dub echoes of the Idjut Boys at work in Belgium. . .

    14) (-) Mood II Swing: ‘Slippery Track - Remixes’ (Honchos Music)
Originally on Stickman, this MIIS mental track now sees super mixes by Dano & Jamie Anderson. And the original is present too. Stuff for the early hours.

    15) (14) Medway: ‘Release’ (Hooj)
Taken from Medway’s ‘Fat Bastard EP’ of last year, this track sees it’s proper release with a package of great remixes. Lexicon Avenue, Andy Moor and Joeski (for the west coast version) are the names at work.

    16) (8) H.C.C.R.: ‘Suck My Clock’ (Sondos)
‘Choo Choo’ Romero introduces his darker side with the second release from Sondos. Minimalist and intense with dope beats. The title may contain some kind of veiled sexual innuendo.

    17) (11) Mazi Featuring Donna Blakely: ‘Could It Be You’ (Afterhours)
Mazi comes out with this uplifting lottery of a tune on two 12-inches. Remixes come from CZR, Ron Carroll, Olivier Desmet and Tony Senghore.

    18) (13) Copyright Presents One Track Mind: ‘Where Would You Be’ (Soulfuric Trax)
A sunny mixture of retro beats and sounds for the latest twelve on ST.

    19) (16) Junior Sanchez & Christian Smith: ‘United Groove’ (Cube)
Third release for Junior’s Cube imprint. Here he teams up with Sweden’s Christian Smith and the result is a strong mixture of beats and tech grooves. Heads up!

    20) (17) Robbie Rivera: ‘In The Distance’ (Filtered)
As you might expect, it’s tons of easy energy ahoy from Robbie Rivera.

Chart compiled from current international charts and club trends by Nico De Ceglia

"WHA? ROOTS - Part of WGW in Belgium, this label is demonstrating in full in being one that deserves our close attention in the coming months. A nocturnal sound exploration alla Idjut Boys distinguishes Mayaku's Theme from MAYAKU, a great piece of work that is characterised by reverbs, killer bass-lines and dark grooves. No less is the Latin contaminated deep house of Quartier Latin by COSMOPOLIT in which there are some very evident funky, jazz and afro touches…" - Review by Nico De Ceglia in Discoid Magazine Italy Issue March 2001

    ARSENAL - A volta (Wha? 007) - released on 12" CD

After the big success of their first song "Release" on Wally’s Groove World ARSENAL is back with their long awaited follow up of this anthem that was remixed by Swirl People and Attaboy and licensed to the infamous Café del Mar chill-out compilation originating from Spain.
Hendrik Willemyns & John Roan, the producers behind this prestigious project bring us now this Brazilian influenced "A volta" with funky additional mixes by Marino Berardi (WGW, Wave) and Rubba J. (Mayaku). Together with a superb vocal support by Mario Vitalino Dos Santos and a set of live instruments controlled by Mario they are responsible for this Latino house anthem that will probably last till after the summer of 2001. This release already enjoys much support of dj’s such as Chris Duckenfield from Swag (see also review in Oct. Issue of Jockey Slut), Bruno from Café del Mar, Rhythm Doctor, Dorfmeister, Vinyl Junkies London and Raoul from Food.
Boy and girls... this one’s to keep you warm all through the winter!

    Tracklisting:
    A1 - A volta - Marino Berardi Remix
    B1 - A volta - Original mix
    B2 - A volta - Rubba J. Remix

Written by Hendrik Willemyns & John Roan
Vocals by Mario Vitalino Dos Santos
Live instruments (Berimbau , Pandeiro , conga's...) played by Mario
