    What can I say, I'm a mail-order junkie. Living in a
medium sized Canadian town in the middle of nowhere, it's
hard to find what I want in the local shops, so I resort to
mail ordering records more often than my meager wages can
support. The other problem is that dance music stores
always sport waayy too much attitude. Because i'm not
wearing the latest in loose fitting synthetic fabrics and
overbuilt sneakers, the guys look at me funny and don't
give me the time of day. I hate spending time in, and
supporting these shops. I suspect if I lived in a town with
better record shops, I'd probably buy less on-line, because
it's not as though I usually save any money by buying
on-line, especially from american stores. By the time you
add shipping, duties, and the exchange rate, i've usually
paid out double the $us price in $CAD. Regardless, I've
also had good luck using dustygroove. I've also had luck
with sandboxautomatic.com (for underground hip hop), aron's
records in LA (a bit pricey), cdnow, and Groovetech - but
they ship UPS and then I have to pay big brokerage fees :(
. I've also used gemm to try and locate some harder to
find releases, but you have to be careful with them,
because some of the sellers who use gemm are totally shady
(rockhouse, allstars, nrgmusic... take heed to the seller's
ratings). I recently put in my first order with groove
dist. and I have to admit that their customer service is
    fantastic.

If anyone knows of a good Canadian-based mail order shop,
i'd be interested in that, too.
