    hi everyone,

This is gonna be a (gasp! can it be?) relatively short one as there is
much to tell you about, but so little time. Tip: check the 'Club Gigs'
section below for ticket giveaways to tonight's Smith & Mighty gig at
Fez Batik, and tomorrow's 'Transcendance' event at B-Side.

As always, thanks to all who take the time to read through these
info-filled notes and to everyone who responds, replies, supports, sends
me their music and thoughts, and so on. Much appreciated. 'tis a source
    of energy and light.

This is what's been goin' on....

    RADIO:

Mental Chatter airs Mondays from 11am-2pm on Toronto's oldest community
station, CKLN 88.1fm. Tune in live via your radios or 'puters for
super-fresh releases (including advance goodies), local and
international guests, community/gig info galore, and loads more.

Recent Picks of the Week have included:
    - Herbert's gorgeous 'Bodily Functions' album, out later this month on
    K7!
    - V/A: 'Phuturistic Dancing,' a wicked, groovalicious new comp. out on
    Bitasweet.

    Playlists: Now updated:
    http://ckln.sac.ryerson.ca/html/chart/MentalList.html
or ask me to send to you directly if I don't already. Ditto your friends
    'n fellow music lovers.

Archives: Yes, it's true! At long last, Mental Chatter is now archived
online so you can listen at your own leisure...not to mention spread the
word and sounds to friends in other cities/countries. Welcome aboard to
all new listeners who've been checking the show thissa way! If you'd
like to listen to the shows originally broadcast on CKLN on April 2, 9,
or 23rd, head on over to the audio archives section of
http://www.beats.to The April 30th show should be online any minute
now as well, with new shows added weekly.

    WRITING:

Last week's edition of Extended Play in Eye weekly featured Montreal DJ,
producer and founder of Turbo Records, Tiga (April 26), while this
    week's ish
highlights the folks behind Mass Production, a techno-themed event that
happened last night as part of the Mayworks Festival. If you're
interested in checking these pieces (or my Beats Per Week listings
section), surf on over to http://www.eye.net and head to The Beat
section in the issue you're looking for (all issues of Eye are archived
by date on the site). Those of you in the Toronto area should pick up
the physical paper to check the super-sweet new redesign!

Also, check the current (May) issue of Exclaim magazine
(http://www.exclaim.ca) for reviews of albums by Shantel ('Great Delay'
on K7), Antibalas ('Liberation Afro Beat Vol. 1' on Ninja Tune), and
loads more from all my fellow music geeks who contribute to the mag.

    CLUB GIGS:

Glide Wednesdays continue weekly at the oh-so-comfy Gypsy Co-op (817
Queen St. W., Toronto), with Andrew Allsgood and I throwing down nu
jazz, dub, downtempo, deep house, d&b, beats, and soulful abstract
grooves. Props and thank-you's to everyone who came out last Wednesday,
May 2, for a special live PA performance by Montreal's Freeworm. His
sounds were beautiful and the vibe and crowd were truly lovely. This was
exactly the kind of night that keeps us promoter/DJ types doing what we
    do...at least in my book.

Here's a list of who else will be joining Andrew and I over the next
little while. No cover for any of these and, yeah, the air conditioning
is now working! Who would have predicted this sudden summer ? (I'm not
    complaining :-)

May 09: MANITOBA (the Leaf Label, U.K.): Toronto's own internationally
respected melodic electronic experimentalist Dan Snaith cuts loose 'n
lets his funky side shine through.

May 16: PAUL E. LOPES (Whatnaut on illnoiz.com, 3 Piece Chicken
Orchestra, 52 Inc.'): 'Good music for good people' is how he describes
    his flavour. Youknowit!

May 30: TRIPLET & MARTINO (both Gemma Records): Two thirds of the Gemma
crew come correct with the deep house and broken beats. Yum.

June 13: WATERSHELL & LEX of LEGION OF GREEN MEN (Interchill,
Post-Contemporary, Echo-Beach): Two legendary T.O. producers dig deep to

bring some seriously dubbed-out, trippy bizness.
