    hi there everyone,

There's lots and lots of exciting news on the glide front to share with
you. One week from tonight, January 23rd, marks FIVE years of glide
happening every Wednesday evening at Gypsy Co-op! I sincerely want to
    thank
every single person out there who has supported the night in any way,
shape or form over the years. As anyone who promotes and/or DJ's at an
ongoing club night can tell you, it's tough lasting a year or two, let
    alone five. So.... thank-you!!

In order to celebrate and say thanks to glide supporters, we've been
working hard to bring in (and spread the word about) some of our
favourite peeps, who will be creating special sets for the occasion.
    Here's the scoop:

ï Wednesday January 23, Twilight Circus Dub Sound System is flying in
from Holland to offer up his earth-shaking blend of contemporary dub,
reggae, jungle and space jazz. Twilight a.k.a. Ryan Moore and I have
been talking about this gig for well over a year, so you can imagine my
excitement. More details about Twilight, his set and all that we'll have
on the go on BOTH floors of the Gypsy to be found below.

ï Wednesday February 6, Manitoba, aka Dundas, Ontario native (and
current London, UK resident) Dan Snaith, returns home at last for a
brief visit AND his first-ever live PA in Toronto! He's been hard at
work on his 2nd album for the UK's Leaf Label, and says he'll be sharing
a whole wack of brand new songs as well as music from his much loved
Start Breaking My Heart debut album. Read on for full details...

ï BTW, Andrew Allsgood and I are, of course, at the Gypsy (817 Queen W.)
every Wednesday, including tonight... so we hope to see you out! No
cover, except when noted for these special events.

Read on for full details and mini-bios....plus ticket giveaways :-)

glide wednesdays are five years strong! Founded by DJ, promoter, CKLN
radio host, and journalist Denise Benson on January 22 1997, glide has
become one of the longest running weeklies in Toronto club history. By
consistently bringing communities and soulful underground sounds
together in the chilled yet stimulating environment of Gypsy, glide
developed a long-standing reputation as a night to check for fresh
sounds, diverse crowds and friendly vibes. Originally focusing on dub,
downtempo and drum + bass as glideís sole resident, Denise later found a
kindred musical spirit in Andrew Allsgood and brought him into the fold
in March of 2000. Together, they weave an adventurous blend of dub. nu
jazz. broken beat. house + deep sweet grooves.

Over the five years, glide has brought T.O. many a happy, happening
night, with local and international guests including Andrea Parker, More
Rockers, the Angel, Freeworm, Nickodemus, DJ Freedom, Roni Size,
Resinators, DJ Swingsett, Purple Penguin, Paul E. Lopes, Mark Rae,
Manitoba, Arling + Cameron, Lex, Jonny L and many, many others.

Now, we thank glide supporters with two very special anniversary
    celebrations:

    MANITOBA (mini-bio)
One year ago, few had heard of Dundas, Ontario native Dan Snaith, a.k.a.
classically trained, jazz and hip-hop loving electronic music producer
MANITOBA. Start Breaking My Heart, his debut album for the U.K.ís
innovative Leaf Label, changed all that. With intense and immediate
response coming from the likes of Gilles Peterson, DJ Food, LTJ Bukem,
Andy Weatherall and Ross Allen, Snaith soon found himself to be a man of
the moment. The latter half of 2001 saw him DJíing throughout the U.K.,
France, Japan and beyond, including at the infamous Big Chill Fest, and
recording / performing with friend + musical mentor Kieran Hebden a.k.a.
Four Tet. Having relocated from Toronto to London, U.K. to further his
math studies, the beat-heavy, melodic experimentalist has also been
working on new material for a 2002 release. Home to take part in glideís
anniversary celebrations, MANITOBA will perform his first-ever live P.A.
in Toronto and drop some new ish on us all! www.posteverything.com
