    NEWS
It's hotter than July here in California at the moment. Okay, it is
July...but the sea breeze seems further away than it really is.

And if anything else is hotter, it's the great music that I've had the
pleasure of indulging in these last few weeks. It's wonderful to listen
to tons of "must-seek" material from around the world. The international
language of club culture and jazz are meshing quite well, and I'm more
than happy to share with all of you the goods that keep coming.

I had a great conversation with Chris from Zero dB yesterday, and also
had a short chat with his partner Neil. I want to thank them both very
much for their time with the chat. You'll hear the interview with them
on Friday August 2nd, coinciding with the forthcoming release of the
compilation from their label Fluid Ounce called "Fluid Ounce:
Unmeasured." It will be out on Ubiquity.

There's quite a bit of useful info this week, so let's get busy!

    ATJAZZ PROFILE/INTERVIEW TONIGHT
Tonight on Urban Landscapes, I'll feature a profile and conversation
with Mantis Recording (UK) artist Martin Iveson, aka Atjazz. Asides from
releasing original works such as the "Labfunk" long-player, he's also
responsible for doing remixes for such artists as Waiwan, Kabuki, and
others. The remix album to Labfunk, called "Labresults" is now available
around the world and has been well-received. The domestic release of the
album is slated for Tuesday July 16. We'll also hear some of his music,
remixes, and a remix of one of his tunes. The feature will also be
available online for listening anytime; I'll let you know when it's
    complete.

    NEW WEB SITE ADDITION--REVIEWS ARCHIVE
As of this week, the previous musical reviews for the email circulars
can now be found at the Urban Landscapes web site. It's a single page
representing reviews from April 2002 to the present. Each week, reviews
posted in the circular the previous week will be added to the page. You
can view the page at http://urbanlandscapesshow.com/music/reviews.htm.

    CHATEAU FLIGHT PROFILE NEXT WEEK
On Friday July 19, we'll have a profile/interview on Versatile recording
artists Chateau Flight. Gilb-r and I:Cube are the duo, releasing
original works and their full-length "Puzzle" last year. A solid
collection of remixes they've done over the past five years has been
recently released--Chateau Flight: Remixent. I'll have a conversation
with Gilb-r, who is also the man behind the well-respected Versatile
Records. So be sure to tune in!

    REVIEWS

The following are new reviews printed this week. Not as many as I've
hoped to get to, meaning that you'll get an eyeful next week. You can
now find the Urban Landscapes 2002 Music Reviews page with past reviews
from April 2002 to as recently as last week. The site is located at
    http://urbanlandscapesshow.com/music/reviews.htm.

Various Artists--Companionship: The Sounds Of Scandinavia (April test)
I tip my hat to Mr. Nik Weston for this truly awesome gem of a
collection. The nu-jazz scene is Scandinavia is almost like the old jazz
of the 60s, but it's just as alive and fresh. The extremely talented
Andreas Saag starts the ball rolling with the terrific track "April In
Vain" under his best known guise of Swell Session. My favorite track on
this compilation (and that's not saying much...they are all very good)
is "Hear My" by Ernesto's. You might have heard him collaborating with
Saag under his other guise of Stateless on "Falling Into," and Saag also
lends his talent on this awesome track.

The compilation is just so delicious. I've easily digested the tracks
from beginning to end, my appetite still left unsatisfied--I wanted
more! It's due out on Danish label April in Europe in August. Enjoy!

    Larissa Papp--You 12" (Neglige)
This is a fresh 12" that definitely has a nice Detroit house feel to it.
Larissa is the vocalist; her husband, Oliver, the producer/arranger.
Several mixes are here, including one from Fabrice Lig (aka Soul
Designer). But I'm a sucka for the original version myself. Groovy!

    Bassman--Doorpusher 12" (Fabrique)
Who turned out of the lights? Out of nowhere, I was blind sided by four
delicious tracks from a 12" by one Johannes Strohl. This is very tight!
I was arrested from the first track and still was smiling by the last
track on the flip. This is definitely a groover and a half. It's out
now, so pick it up and be happy! Can someone turn the lights back on for
    me?

Nuspirit Helsinki--Trying: Butti 49 Remix (CDR)
I've played the original track from Nuspirit Helsinki's self titled
album on my show a few times, loving its funky groove alongside some
soulful vocal work. Now Snorre Seim takes the tune and busts the moves
to make this a jazz-infused delight! The piano riffs, the drums, the
bass...almost sounds as if it could have been from a jazz trio from the
60s. This is definitely one of my favorite remixes of the year so far,
without question. Word on the street is that this mix should hit the
streets soon. Let's hope it does. Jazzheads unite!

Koop--In A Heartbeat: Gerd Remix (CDR)
This track from the excellent debut long-player from the Swedish duo
Koop gets a rather funked-up mix from Belgium's Gerd, and what a mix it
really is! The beats, the keys, the silky vocals of Terry Callier...this
is definitely fresh goods that should see the light of day on vinyl.
Let's hope for all of our sakes that it will, because this is just too
good not to be. This is perfect summertime music, I think, as it is
pleasurable and fun to listen to.

My favorites for the month of July will be posted next week. Here are
