Re: the web is dead?I've been an AJ'er since '97 and love the fact that the topics of discussion branch out far beyond turntables (tr)hip-hop and breakbeats. It's really cool to see how many listees are up on their jazz and funk and the great eclecticism of tastes. This list is definitely one of my major sources of info when it comes to AJ and related topics.

I dunno, maybe the list has slowed down because AJ, in the strict (whatever that means) sense of the word, ain't really all that hip anymore where it concerns the mainstream. Also, electronic music isn't quite as cutting edge or fresh as it used to be, I guess because it's been around a longer time and more has been done with it during that time. What do y'all think?

Although I don't contribute as much as I used to due to time constraints, this list has become a very happy part of my everyday routine: get up, get coffee, check my email, read the posts..... I certainly have no intention of ever unsubscribing, and I'd be really sad to see the list disappear, as I'm sure many of you would.

This list has been an invaluable tool to me also. I first joined I think in 98 or 99 and was mostly a lurker then. Although I did talk about DJ Qool Marv, Maxwell, German Hip-hop, and the rebirth of vinyl a lot back then. It was helpful to me as a DJ looking for different things to play, and as a journalist, trying to make connections with independent artists and labels. I left the list for quite some time and recently came back within the last year or so. I know I have talked a lot about hip-hip here, but I see AJ as an extension of and in many cases sometimes the same thing. Well, that is at least in the kinds of hip hop that I most like.

Since I don't like a lot of what is on the radio, I find the playlists folks share helpful as well as John Book's MP3s. Also the opportunity to end up on other lists from folks on the lists who are DJs and musicians and record label publicists. Reading reviews provided by others on this list has also been helpful. As I am writing again, and lately thinking of DJing again...this is my main source of inspiration.

Perhaps folks are looking for more discussion and that is why they think the web is dead, or that this list in particular, is dying. But I still find out a lot about some really good music and artists here. I also have learned whose opinions I trust, because I know who are the folks on the list who pretty much like some of the very same things that I like.

I am sorry about the Harvard hip-hop list, but let us not go out like that. Just really hoping that Erik Borälv doesn't ever decide to give this project up.

      Peace.

Hey list, I been a lurker on the list since 1995, I must say that
the acid jazz list is one of my favorites and the recommendations
and input from all the listees has been a very important influence
        in my life.

I been a music lover since I can remember, I can say that my life is lived
thru music and the list keeps my hunger to know all about good music
        satisfied.

I really enjoy the postings from Cukipapa, Elson,Lars, Velancha (you all
        know
who you are)they are very entertaining and informative, respect to you all.

Also the list is very important to me as I recently opened a record store in
my native Tijuana, Mexico. I can proudly say that all the nice music that I
get to know thru the list gets a mention when my clients ask for what's new
in the acid jazz - house - eclectic scene.

By the way please visit www.estereofonico.com we are uploading dj sets from
dj's from Mexico there are various styles of music but I hope you like it.

        Saludos desde Mexico.

        Paz.

i've been on this list since 1995. I rarely post and lately when I
have it's been for song ids.

This list has been a godsend for me. I don't listen to the radio and
rarely go out to clubs so ALL the music I'm exposed to is through
this list or from playing connect the dots. I value highly all of
your recommendations, and the playlists (I know some listees don't
like them). For example, If I see a song on multiple playlists, I
know it's something I should pick up.

I'm a little late, but I just got Domu's up + down because of someone's
        post.
A fantastic record. However, Verve remixed just knocked it out of
constant rotation. Particularly, the mixes of summertime (ufo),
return to paradise (mark de clive-lowe), don't explain (dzihan &
kamien), and my absolute favorite, wait till you see him (de phazz).
