Hello all
I was fortunate last week to have been paid a visit by local DJ and producer
Lazyboy, and musicians from his group Playground. We heard just a few of his
and their unreleased productions, which for me recall elements of Kruder &
Dorfmeister, DJ Shadow, Zero DB and Sonar Kollektiv's Kasar. Very fine
stuff, and we'll have more for future editions of Stylin. In the coming
weeks, these guys will start taking over at the Royal Derby on Sunday
afternoons/evenings. First with Lazyboy and Evat on the decks, and then in
June the live Playground experience. And, Lazyboy and Evat will be giving
Stylin a run for its money when their radio show, The Jazz Blend returns to
SYN FM later this year.
On the Trainspotters' Corner side, it was some soulful drum and bass from
High Contrast¹s forthcoming album for Hospital. The stirring recent single
"Return of Forever" is included, but we featured the new track "Global Love"
which furthers the drum and bossa connection with vocal snatches taken from
the classic "Agua de Beber" as recorded by Quarteto Em Cy and Tamba Trio in
1966.
This week we have a lovely mix from Belgium's DJ Morpheus, known for his
excellent Freezone series of compilations for SSR. Expect unreleased music,
including many downtempo vocal delights.
