I'm not sure what criteria determined this particular top 100, but it seems
odd that certain records, particular in the first sections, are 'essential'.
Thievery Corporation as essential? Perhaps to some, but I simply cannot
imagine Thievery Corp ever occupying the same hallowed ground as some of the
other folks mentioned. These lists are of course entirely dependant on your
reference point (i.e. essential to what?) but some inclusions are a bit
much. Weather Report? Return To Forever? There are dozens and dozens of
better fusion groups, granted none so utterly mainstream. For example, I've
recently been enjoying Hiromasa Suzuki's 'Skip Step Colgen' LP. Now that is
fusion done properly.
