FWIIW coming from a newer member and a lurker...
Mp3.com is discontinuing it's royalty program for its Platinum Premium
artist subscribers, so many folks will be readjusting thier sites, you can
be sure.
I have 100 soud files there that have been available for free playback and
download based on the notion that I could at least get a .5 cent royalty per
playback and download. I wasn't really counting on CD sales, just cyberplay
for most of my income from them. Now that that is gone, I have had to make
some changes to see how things will fly this next year.
I have been in the process of turning off all of the download switches for
most of my music. Certainly by the weekend all you be able to do is do a
streaming listen. I, unfortunately, have no advantage to speak of, by
letting people just have "hard drive copies" of my music for nothing.
However, you will still be able to lo-fi or hi-fi (hi-f- for dsl and
broadband users) play my stuff for free, if you wish. In order to mitigate
the problem, I have cut the prices on my CD's down to a minimum - a sort of
fire sale. They are all set for around $8.00 to $9.00 plus S&H. The top two
CD's "Hydronium" and "New Stuff" might be of interest to some list members.
It was nice while it lasted. I got to pretend I was sort of a big shot in
the music biz because I was getting a few bucks for my music, but alas,
realty has come back to wake me up here! Oh well, I've still got my jobbing
gigs on weekends and I'm writing some new music for trumpet, bass trumpet
and tenor plus electronics. I'm still in the learning process here!
