herein enriched.'Right here'featuring Dwele is awesome but theres also
tracks featuring Mark De Clive Lowe,Rich Medina(classic! ),Little
Brother,Lady Alma etc.Fine debut and those beats are PHAT.The 6 track 12
features the lady Alma track plus the jazzy 'm.o.o.d for otis' and
'jazzorgy'tracks.lovely stuff that im buggin out to.Top Effort !
2.Terry Hall & Mushtaq - They gotta quit kicking my dog around -Honest

Lets face it they run a wicked record shop that's been around since i
was in short trousers,James Lavelle used to work there and they do a
damn decent selection of jazz/reggae/hip hop/broken/deep house at some
of the cheapest prices in london.Anyway this is a one sided 10'' with a
latin cuban party throwdown.Instant classic stamp all over it. Sounds
like a stonking Fruitmeat release but er....isnt !
3.Truby Trio - A festa / Jaleo -Compost 12'' Germany
3 tracker from daddy truby & da boys.Two remixes from Cuica which is my
favorite but also a subdued much hyped Senor Coconut remix.Summery stuff!
4.Incognito - on the road - danny krivit re edit - Ibadan 12'' - usa
Its a dope mix that's been around since middle of last year and it
finally gets a press on a 12 with same track both sides.Its however
marked up as ''promo only''with no bar code/no publishing/no
royalties....its a killer record but i think this is a bit lame.No one
will it seems earn any money from this release except the label and even
then im not even sure its an official ibadan release.If it goes the same
way as the Aretha Franklin 12 (again a promo only 12)it will sell in its
thousands.Now im sure that Aretha isnt short of a few bob but thats not
the point.If Bluey from incognito aint getting paid here then one can
only hope that it creates awareness of his outfit and peeps go looking
for more Incognito material to check out because he aint earning any
dosh on this 12.Anyway ill get off my soapbox and i suppose its stupid
people like me buying the bleedin record which gives the bootleggers a
reason for putting it out in the first place !!!!!ugh !!
5.Mika Nakashima - Love Addiction -Yukihiro Fukutomi remix -Sony Japan
12''
Luckily for us foreigners there are nice jazz based instrumentals on
this 12 from the gorgeous Mika Nakashima.Shinchi Osawa (who incidently
has just released his new Mondo Grosso album,'Next Wave' in Japan
aswell)produces the original track with Ryota Nozaki
(mr jazztronik to you)who has arranged the strings from chieko
kinbara.Fukutomi toughens it up for the dancefloor but retains the main
essence of the track....
6.Various -Electric Soul Compilation - Electric Chair -uk 12 sampler
3 tracks from the ever faithful unabombers for a compilation which
comes out in september.YBU soul magic (which is exactly that)next to
Detroit Experiment's think twice and Phil asher's focus classic
floorfiller 'Having your fun'.Need the full album if this is anything to
go by...
7.Jellybean Soul - Keys of Life -Jellybean - US 12''
Got to give respects to Shuya Okino who played this first at The End
and to Vinyl junkies who have been stocking this for months and i didnt
even know (late AGAIN !! )Jazzy keys and lush vocals play over an
irresistable house groove.
8.Kenny Thomas -Crazy World -Su Su - uk 12''
SOUL.dont even ask me about it....just go and buy it.You know it makes
sense.Pure Class for the boogie massive.
9.Fertile Ground -The Moment -Seiji Remix - Counterpoint Records
Seiji makes it ruff n ready on Navasha Daya's incredible vocal.Anthem
at Co Op already and Forge baby after dismissing the mix initially
played it 3 x on Kiss Fm !!!Ayro on the flip.
10.Colorblind -Novo Dia -Plein Gaz - French 12''
Those lovely boys from Lyon in France...DJ Spider and Jun
Matsuoka deliver a tasty 12'' on their own label with a spanish mix from
Wagon Cookin.Hang on that sounds wrong...you'll thinking its flamenco
guitars and the like.Rather should i say theres a mix from wagon cookin
from spain....

The second 12 to be taken from the 'set free' long player with tracks
in a slighter more club friendly 12'' format.
12.season - juice-nuevo ritmo -uk 12''
nick lawrence label laying down pure quality with the first release on
this new label.original featured on the recent compost 'future sound of
jazz album'but on the flipside we get a fine vocal mix and dub by
afronaught.Dirk is the busiest man in showbiz already and then he tells
me he's studying to be a DOCTOR aswell !!! jESUS !
13.DJ Gregory -Elle -Faya Combo -French 12''
Massive.I know,i know....im soooo late on this one and i missed out on
the double pack which has lots of more mixes.This is the without doubt
the sound of summer 2003 .it will cross over many dancefloors and it
works every time.Defected apparently have picked it up for a uk imminent
release so no doubt there'll be more versions to follow on the uk
12s.Its also on gilles compilation.
14.Calm - sketch on banana paper - Rambling - Japan 12''
Calm goes for the dancing juggular vibe and comes with a nice
electronic vibe on a beautiful deep houser.Chari Chari mix on da
flipside and both tracks taken from the banana connection cd album from
last year.Should feature on my next Japanese compilation for american
label Kristal Entertainment aswell later this year.
15.miyazawa -a tango for guevara & evita -truby treatment - future
world funk -uk 12''
Longest title of the week award goes to this little beauty.Think the
tracks is from a sterns music album as rainer and the gang go club floor
friendly to this latin influenced ditty.
16.ocote soul sounds -look sharp/divinorum -fruitmeat -usa 7''
great 7''of a latin funk & afro brass stabbing nature that will stay in
the box as a ''get out of jail'' kind of record for the dancefloor.Great
label.Phat 7''.
17.Fuzz Against Junk -Latino -Location - uk 12''
Nicola Conte (the nu bossa king supremo )gets his group of merry
musicians in the studio to deliver another stonking jazz bossa
beauty...but dont just satisfy yourself with his remix as theres a
decently delicious original re recorded version on the 12 aswell.Quality
and smells like a hit.
18.Drumagick -Maladragem - Schema -italian 12''
Wikked brazilian drum n bass track that is guarranteed to fill any gaps
on a faltering floorspace.Expose yourself to dancing glory ! Rejoice !!
killer.

from Breath -a new project from Masa of sleepwalker & Calm and a mix of
Mondo Grosso's Cenario(plus 1).On the Cream 12'' you get Kenny Dope
remix of KJM,a brazilian project from Hajime Yoshizawa presents Bossa
Free with 'Deixa Nao Deixa' and a Jazztronik remix of Monday Michiru's
'Talk' (plus 1)12 tracks over 3 singles.Theres only 800 copies of each
12 so yo gotta be quick. Go !
20.clyde feat capital a -serve it up -mantis -uk 12''
took a bit of tracking down to pick this up but a little diggin in one
of londons finest second hand emporiums turned up this new 12 from Derby
mantis recordings.Capital a (a san francisco rapper who worked on king
britts sylk 130 project & the jazzanova album)lends his subtle rap to
clive astin's (as clyde)production assisted by jane hamilton.Theres a
brooks hip houser and Tony Nwahchuku (attica blues)mix on a more tasty
electronic tip on the flipside.Original mix is the one but tony puts in
a great effort.
21.Transporter - Glaze - Crippled Dick Hot Wax 2x 12''lp
Initially i was confused (and thats not hard....)as one slab of vinyl
is pressed at 33 and the other at 45rpm.Great album which is difficult
to classify....Don't sleep on this one..Check it out....
22.Sub Level -salsa scratch -Tableturns - USA 12''
It was an idea waiting to happen as Rob Swift joins forces with Bob
James on piano & David Guy on trumpet to deliver an irrisistible slice
of hipty hop in a salsa stylee.Been absolutely everywhere for this
record.Respect to SS for coming through with the goods.
23.DJ Rell - Diggin in Brownswood -Stones throw - USA 12''
I can only assume that the title comes from DJ Rell (aka mad lib) going
around gilles's old house in Brownswood avenue.When Gilles bought a new
house he kept the old one to store his records in (its got a studio in
the basement aswell)....rumour is theres 70,000 pieces in there with
vinyl stacked up in the hallway,on the stairs and in every room.Anyway
Im possibly all wrong about the title and maybe im letting my
imagination get the better of me but er.....thats what i reckon ! The a
side is a real grower of broken beatness.the more you play...the better
it gets....
24.Pharrell - frontin - startrek - usa 12''
Soulful stuff with attitude .Cross over potential is presently winning
many fans including da forge an da peterson....must be the Neptunes
production which to me sounds rather...PHAT !
25.Various - Gilles Peterson Worldwide 3 -Talkin loud cd album & 5
track vinyl sampler.
Cd album plays like a dream with soaring vocals of Valerie Etienne on 2
banks of four hitting the spot next to Henry Mancini,Amy
Winehouse,Marvin Gaye,Spanish Harlem Orchestra,RSL and the original mix
of Raphael Saadiq amongst others.Gilles...you still da mannnn.

Nice 12 with a fantastic sleeve that had me thinking i need to head for
the beach immediately (if you see it ...you see why ! )Nicola Conte adds
his jazzy bossa supremo touch but theres decent original tracks aswell...

lovely lovely lovely.Floortime good times ahead with this summer
scorcher.Seek.Buy.Play.i love this record.

Brand new 4 track ep 12 from the ever faithful Especial label from
Osaka.This time we have a black and grey swifty designed sleeve to match
the others in the collection as Domu joins with Marin for a new project
called Bakura (a name drawn for their facination with star trek
apparently...)with assistance on awesome vocals from Vacchio.Heavy
record.Heavy sleeve.you neeeed this.check the west end of london &

This 12 rocks.....whilst Peterson continues to cain the a side which
might split the sides of your record bag as its soooo larrrge you should
