    Greetings,

Just got off the phone with a friend who'd been burglarized by a former friend of his and discovered that he's now missing several hundred CDs....those of us who are avid music collectors tremble at the thought of having our collections pillaged and is definitely the stuff of nightmares......

I'm definitely running behind in my listening, so here's the featured review:

As One: so far (so good) - I've raved about Kirk Degiorgio many times here in the past and it looks like I'm about to again. This new double-disc set collects 19 tracks from the past 12 years of Mr. D's recordings using the As One moniker. Much of the music contained here has an hypnotic effect - melodies repeat themselves with subtle changes occurring throughout and then fade out. Some hard and aggressive, others soft and ethereal. Somewhere amongst the machinery, there's an icy soulfulness that may not be immediately apparent, but that becomes obvious, once you've surrendered to Degiorgio's production sensibilities. This is a fine introduction to the man's work and to the hard-to-find import albums in his catalog.

New albums that I'm listening to as we speak: Elevator Music from the Truby Trio, soul-jazz vocalist Lizz Wright and her brilliant debut CD entitled Salt, DJ Spooky's Dubtometry, two new chill-out releases from Miami's Kriztal Entertainment: Mesmerizing by Alex Cortiz and Miles To Go from Billy Paul Williams, broken-beat madness from the Rednose Distrikt, the debut album from Plej - Electronic Music From The Swedish Leftcoast and Sambaloco Brazilian Drum 'n' Bass Classics.

Needless to say, I've got my work cut out for me, I'll bugger off and get to it!

Until next week, ciao for now,
    David
