i think you all need to wake up a bit.
how many have actually seen them on this tour?

they are definately a performance band.
    no 2 ways around it.

they completely kicked ass this past weekend.
i saw/opened for them in seattle
and caught their set at the victoria jazz fest.

and to give you some more perspective
    i have seen them before
i have also seen pharoah sanders 3X
    and elvin jones 3X

cinematic orchestra is a tight, kinetic and exciting band.
sure they dont perform like a traditional jazz band

(head, solo, solo, and then back tothe head)

    they have compostions, songs, tracks
    whatever

and they play them with emotion and intensity
there is plenty of improv and solos too.

to me they are a perfect modern jazz band.

i dont think they have ever considered themselves
    background music or soundtrack music
you guys are taking their name 2 literally.

    also
they are performing with a vocalist
so it gives the songs extra punch.
to call their talent suspect is disrespectful

the drummer alone is worth the price of admission alone.
him and PC really shine on the track 'man with a movie camera'
as they do kind of a call and response solo.

    sorry if i seem agitated
    obiviously i am a fan
and i hate to see them not get the credit they deserve as being one of the
few popular modern (acid) jazz doing anything worth mentioning these days.

    respect
    -jason
