STYLIN - Rare grooves, hi-tech jazz and other worldly fusions
Friday afternoons 12-2pm RRR 102.7FM, Melbourne
Live online - http://www.rrr.org.au/index2.html (see below for times)

    Hello all

Part 2 of the playlist catch up. No guest last week but we did have
Trainspotters' Corner featuring one of my favourite current labels Raw
Fusion, run by former Stylin guest Mad Mats. Their latest release is a
boogie house tune "Get Down" by Swedish producer 12th Floor. Amongst other
samples are some drums from the start of "Let's Lovedance Tonight", the 1979
disco hit by Gary's Gang. Domu does a dirty, bumping remix too and if you
listen to his mix next to the original break it's an interesting study in
beat-chopping. Back to Gary's Gang, anyone who was listening would have
heard me fade the tune pretty quickly as it gets into a very dodgy verse and
chorus vocal after such a great break and instrumental intro. The quote
"house music is just the best of disco" which I mentioned (thanks Spankie
Hazard & see you soon) turns out to have been from Ronald Burrell, producer
for the great late 80s/early 90s New York label Nu Groove. So I also played
the house tune "Love Dancing" by Idjut Boy Ray Mang from a few years back.
All the best bits of "Let's Lovedance Tonight" a little extra guitar and
fattened beats and none of the dodgy vocals. All you need.

Looks like my expected guest Chikashi Nishiwaki won't be in Melbourne
tomorrow, so we'll have to postpone that one. But you still get me, you
lucky people! And if you get this email in Melbourne tonight, come down to
Open Sesame and ask me for a Zero DB "Reconstruction" album.

    until then
    Ennio Styles
