You're probably right; remember I haven't heard the original yet! :)

That's what I hate about remixes. I mean they're great and all, but it
really gets to me when a remix becomes more-heard than the original; it
sort of makes the remix "canon" and the orginal gets relegated to
obscurity, especially when the remix's sound is totally taken over by the
remixer to the point where the original artists'
intentions are rendered unrecognizable. You might as well release it as a
different tune by a different artist.

...and Van Helden becomes an internationally-reknown remixer, while
NuYorican soul unfortunately stays put in the NY club scene.
