You should also have Les Cool Session 1 too. The La Funk Mob cut is the
best. Best is to check out those on the comps. There's a new MC Solaar
out (self titled), a new Menelik came out earlier this summer "Je Me
Souviens"--great album, the title track has Pacbell's Cannon as the break.
Others are, the more native tounge like Les Sage Poêtes De La Rue ('La Rue'
is on Les Cool 1), or SLEO, also Sens Unik who even rap in spanish also.
And to get real go for Suprême NTM, "Authentik" is my favoite being I got
it first, I picked up all I could find when I was in Paris last summer.
"1993...J"Appuie Sur La Gachette" with a gachette (gun) on the cover,
picture by Seb Janik on of the up and coming French photographers (he did
the Naomi Cambell--robot pics). And their latest self titled which I even
found on vinyl.
Other comps, try the "La Haïne" soundtrack has some great stuff, or another
Jimmy Jay comp 'Hip-Hop Non-Stop" there must be two volumes, I've got the
second. I also picked up some vinyl in Paris @ Rough Trade, Asmeuk Saco, a
smooth beats, but, nothing stands out and Solo which I really couldn't get
into, but, seeing that I can't find much here in the States I take what I
can get.
For web sites check out:
http://worldmusic.com if its up you can find some
http://www.cdeurope.com has a lot but some unreal prices, over $50 for NTM
http://www.supreme-ntm.com for NTM
and MC Solaar should be somewhere out there too.
