*pan to slack-jawed stephanie* Dego philly last
night... what is it with all these incredible shows
sucking me dry all within like 3 weeks? the mofo
waited till like 1:15 to go on!!! Some of us have
jobby jobs! I almost left, but so glad I didn't. He
played all that mathmatic-organic cyclical drum stuff
ala 2000 black, archive, etc. exactly what I wanted.

I had an academic interest--I'd been wondering what
that stuff sounded like live in a set, not watered
down or sprinkled in with mostly jazzy house, and how
people would respond. As expected, it sounded
challenging to mix, but sublime when it's on. As far
as crowd reaction, it was pretty good, better than i
expected actually. The floor emptied out a little
(josh wink and king britt were playing mostly
    4-to-the-floor b4 and after...snooze) but a lot of
people stuck out the baffling beats and did lovely
    little salsa/samba/breakdance/post-rave moves.

I won't go into describing the music because I won't
do it justice, but if you're into Dego's sound you
know what I mean anyway. The point, and the reason
i'm writing, is to report that he delivered the goods,
all the fresh new stuff I wanted to hear, didn't wuss
out with any obvious crowd pleasers, kept pushing it,
and the people were pretty into it, if slightly
confused. For those of us on this side of the pond
who haven't yet witnessed much of this style played
out, it bodes well for its reception. kinda feels
    like a baptism.

ok troops, get to work. we have heads to blow and
    gospel to spread.
