STYLIN - Rare grooves, hi-tech jazz and other worldly fusions
Friday afternoons 12-2pm RRR 102.7FM, Melbourne
Live online - http://www.rrr.org.au/index2.html (see below for times)

    Hello all

Clearly, Gav Smith turned it out at London's Notting Hill Carnival back in
August this year. We heard the evidence on last week's Stylin. Uptempo
soulful party grooves with twists of latin, brazilian and african. You may
be familiar with Gav's work for the Mr Bongo label, helping to compile the
legendary Brazilian Beats, Latin Beats and Batucada compilations and
producing new albums by legends like Terry Callier and percussionist Dom Um
Romao. Not to mention my number one track of 2002, Paula Lima's "As Famosas
Gargalhadas do Youka" (with Ed Motta). Then there's Gav's more
future-looking label Disorient, having released music from Dimitri from
Tokyo (aka Dimitri from Paris) and Kaori's great rework of Inner City's
classic "Good Life". More recently Disorient put out the Lonesome Echo
Production album with the incredible tune "Love" featuring Pharoah Sanders,
Lonnie Liston Smith, Apani and DJ Spinna.

So who better than Gav to help Kano and I celebrate the last Open Sesame for
2003? Hopefully you can join us for the party on Thursday night at
Honkytonks to follow some great parties with DJ Spinna and last week
Northside Records main man Chris Gill. Percussion master Elvis Aljus will be
back after tearing it up with DJ Spinna. Email back with any names you need
    on the guest list.

It's been too long since we had some Melbournites on Stylin, so tune in this
Friday for an in-studio visit from the Little Beasties aka Angela Maison and
Ant J Steep, now signed to UK house label Music For Freaks.

    until then
    Ennio Styles
