old but cool

Bad weather sent me in to the used record store this weekend. FInds were
pretty good:

Quincy Jones- Body Heat 1973... stars Herbie Hancock among others, lots of cool
Moog and Arp sounds

Soundtrack to Across 110th St. - Bobby Womack, JJ Johnson and Peace... pretty
good, title track instrumental is super fine and some really nasty Moog sounds.

O Boso- M. Dibango... GGGGroovy afro-rock from 1972 on London Recordings. For
the most part extremely fonky with a bit of Camerounian folky stuff thrown in

Wild- The Afro Latin Soultet... arranged by Phil Moore III. Pretty funky,
kinda beat sounding latin album. Lots of drums and whoops and yells... goddamn
cool. Its on Tower records. Anyone ever heard this one.

Stan Getz - Big Band Bossa Nova
Gary McFarland- Soft Samba.....Both on Verve. both of these very nice for
layin' back. Gary even includes a recipe for a 'Soft Samba Cocktail'.

A little newer. I've got a promo ep from Howie B featuring Spacer and Sie.
Its fairly wierd ambientish stuff with an infrequent hip hop beat. Sounds
great with some Ninjatune stuff. Is this what one can expect on other Howie B
stuff. The one I waffle over regularly is Howie B and friends comp.

Any other recommendations on more electronic sounding soundscapes over the hip
hop beats? I think I'm going to explore this side of things for a while,
I find the blips and the bleeps very refreshing somehow.

A last thought. I've acquired this old 12". Its by Spoonin Gee and called
Spoonin Rap. Its pretty old school style. He raps and raps, no chorus, nice
basssline, cheesy echo put on his voice halfway through. Anyway, I listen to
this now and again but the other night I looked and realized the year.. 1979...
that's pretty early for such a rap record. Anyone know of Spoonin Gee?

Doin' It (just like brothers)
