that's why i'm really wary of saying "it's dope, buy it!" w/o knowing
someone's tastes. i *love* the new roni size, but then again, i grew up
around people that sang, so vocals only bug me if they're bad...

if you're referring to "new forms" (i have the vinyl and the 1st track is
"brown paper bag"--which is mc-less, i think), the mc is bahamadia
(definitely in the "her" category) of roots & sweetback fame (not to mention
her own stuff). honestly the only thing about the track that bugs me is
that
it's a little too broken up (i.e. too many beatless breakdowns).

i like the jazz influence in what squarepusher's doing (some of it sounds
like jaco-period weather report thrown in the beat blender) but his beats
are
a little too assaultive for me--the dexter gordon line from the movie "round

midnight" about someone "playing paradiddles on my head" comes to mind.
photek is always worth checking out (i *love* "two sword technique"). i
don't know third eye, and aphex twin is more interesting to read about than
to listen to (opinion, quite obviously). i guess the thing w/roni is, he's
into soul music (generally vocal oriented stuff) and he's just mutated it to

fit his form of expression--jungle.
