Hi jazzers !!!!!
First thing: I'm a brazilian.
Sec. thing: Everthing that Andre wrote about social scene with music
in Rio is correct !!
Third thing: About music. The brazilian press is terrible, they give
names for stuffs without knowlodge. I don't know whose person start call
this music as Funk, but with sure this isn't. If you are thinking in
something like good vibes, great vocals, good instrumentals, a soul feeling
or clever samples; forget it!!!
"2 Live Crew - We want a pussy" and "Tag Team - Whoompz There Is"
are their biggest foreign hits, and the brazilian productions are like this.
I'm sorry, but this is had never seem like AJ. The answer is NO.

If you looking for something good in Brazil the hip hop scene in Sao
Paulo and Rio de Janeiro are very good; new artists from bossa nova are
calling the attention of brazilians; and born some bands that are mixing
good style of black music. The funk (fake) movement is something to labels
earn money. Is a pop movement, nothing groove.

Peace.
Tahira.
