Maybe a bit off topic, but I attended my 10-year high school reunion this
weekend.
Just a few minutes after mentioning to a fellow former classmate that "None
of us are famous yet," I'm talking to another former classmate (Chad Smith,
who is the road manager for the San Diego latin/funk/AJ band B-Side
Players), who tells me that Jurassic 5's (and former Ozomatli MC) Chali 2Na
went to our beloved alma mater. After my string of "No Shit?!?!"s, he also
informed me that J5 DJ Nu-Mark was also from the class of '89 at John
Marshall High School in Los Angeles. I ask him about Chali's real name, of
which he mentions its "Charles Stewart," a name that rings a very, very
faint bell.
After I return home that night, I dig out my yearbook and lo and
behold...The Ghetto Diplomat himself.
No wonder that guy somehow looked familliar to me.
Small world. Big school.
